Lesson 101: Power Washing Charlotte

19 Nov , 2016

Clayton Townsend of the Charlotte NC based pressure washing company Townsend Pressure Washing took the CRESN members on a visual field trip of his work trailer and equipment to explain the tools of his trade.

A pressure washer or power washer is a high-pressure mechanical sprayer used to remove loose paint, mold, grime, dust, mud, and dirt from surfaces and objects such as buildings, vehicles and concrete surfaces.

The basic pressure washer consists of a motor (either electric, internal combustion, pneumatic or hydraulic) that drives a high-pressure water pump, a high-pressure hose and a trigger gun-style switch. Just as a garden hose nozzle is used to increase the velocity of water, a pressure washer creates high pressure and velocity. The pump cannot draw more water from the pipe to which the washer is connected than that source can provide: the water supply must be adequate for the machine connected to it, as water starvation leads to cavitation damage of the pump elements. ...read more!

Did you know: A cockroach can live for a week without its head? Due to their open circulatory system, and the fact that they breathe through little holes in each of their body segments, they are not dependent on the mouth or head to breathe. The roach only dies because without a mouth, it can’t drink water and dies of thirst.

What is a P-trap? Charlotte plumber Paul Mesiti tells us.

10 Sep , 2016

Member Paul Mesiti recently educated the CRESN group about how a P-trap works.

A P-trap is a plumbing fixture that has several purposes. It traps debris that has drained from the sink and prevents it from forming a clog deep within the plumbing system, and to stops sewer gases from passing into the home. It is this back flow prevention that prevents sewer gas from escaping into the house. Sewer gas can contain many noxious odors which at the least, may smell like rotten eggs and at their worst, can be explosive and poisonous. The traps installed in the plumbing lines help to form a barrier of water within the P-trap. At the bottom of the “P” is a small cleanout tap that can be used to remove clogs the P-trap has contained. ...read more!
